Jay Harter's experience and connections were absolutely essential for my sale. He helped me prep for the sale and gave me excellent advice - for example, I thought that I really had to upgrade my computer network but he convinced me that a buyer would not value a new system that did not meet their needs. And he was correct- the buyers did not want a PC based network and also wanted a different software. It took patience to wait through the holiday season but he eventually set me up with buyers who he knew were a perfect match - and then facilitated our interactions. Both sides respected his honesty and straightforward approach - which really made our discussions fruitful and moved us along quickly. My advice is to start earlier than you think, be patient, keep your practice humming along and ask Jay to be your broker.

I was very comfortable talking and discussing things with Jay Harter as soon as I met him. He’s like an old friend. There is a lot of paperwork and reports and other tasks to complete for the transition and Jay walked us through it all. We were a little apprehensive about hiring a broker to sell our practice and then we were not sure how fast it would sell. I am pleased to recommend Jay Harter, from Henry Schein Professional Practice Transitions, who I worked with to broker the sale of my practice. I tried to sell the practice working alongside a consultant who specializes in managing dental offices, but not selling them. This was attempted by listing privately through various classified ads online and through dental publications. The DIY approach only proved to be a waste of time and money. The time it took to get all the documentation prepped, get the practice photographed, listed, priced, disclosed, shown, etc. was not worth it in the end. The responses were underwhelming, and I had no real idea of the qualifications of people who did answer ads. I tried this for about 3-4 months and the constant listing and relisting approach just wasn’t working.
